Welfare Department hands out RM17,680 to fire victims

Sibu, 15 okt 2010 : State assemblyman for Pelawan, Vincent Goh handed over welfare assistance in cash amounting to RM17,680 to the fire victims of Kampung Bahagia, Teku yesterday afternoon. Six houses in the village were destroyed by fire on last Aug 10, leaving 40 people from eight families homeless.
        Goh said the aid from the welfare Department and earlier donations from the public (exceeding RM40,000) was a display of concern, unity and cooperation from both the government and the people.
        Public donations came from various racial and religious communities that truly reflected the 1 Malaysia spirit. The welfare assistance of RM2,500 per household handed over yesterday was for the purchase of building materials and others needs. However, where the damage on a house was partial, the assistance was allocated on a ratio basis.
         Immediately after the fire incident at Kampung Bahagia on August 10, the sibu Welfare Department sent aid to the victims in the form of food, kitchen wares, clothing, cash and others needs on the same day.
         Meanwhile, the chairman og JKK kampung Bahagia, on behalf of the victims, expressed his sincere thanks to the Welfare Department for the cash assistance.
