Kuching, Friday - A pre-school childcare centre will be set up in Petra Jaya this year to cater for the needs of the State Civil servants working in the many offices found in the area.

Minister in the Chief Minister's Department (Early Childhood Education ) Datin Hajah Fatimah Abdullah said that two possible sites had been identified for the setting up of the centre. They were Lapau and the old tennis court near the complex (Wisma Bapa Malaysia).

She said that a plan would be submitted to the State Cabinet for approval next month, and barring any unforeseen circumstances, the childcare centre would be operational by end of the year. Children aged four years and below were eligible for enrollment at the centre, she added.
Datin Hajah Fatimah Abdullah also said that they are not only concerned with providing a place for the young children when there parents are working but we are also concerned about providing quality childcare for them.
There are 63 children of four years and below whose parents are working at offices in Petra Jaya,” she said. Twenty-two Kemas childcare centres benefited from the allocation in 2009, and another 23 will get theirs this year to upgrade their facilities and their curriculum. That means that 45 Kemas childcare centres have been upgraded to Permata Negara Kemas Childcare Centres,” Fatimah said.
